Rope holders, Jimmy...big time rope holders.
None of these men were perfect, but they sought to form a great Union, didn't they? The end result was not perfect, but their sacrifice, their bravery, their intellect, gave us one of the greatest countries, governed by one of the greatest documents this world has ever seen. Our forefathers were great men, smart men, who although weren't infallible.... they rose to the occasion.

They laid down their lives for INDIVIDUAL liberty and weren't interested in giving one man the power to control the destiny of the nation. It turns my
stomach for you GWB backers to be speaking so highly of these men who would BY THEIR OWN WRITINGS, not be on board with waterboarding, wiretapping, denial of
habeus corpus....
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. -- Benjamin Franklin

Perhaps Seal's response isn't quite as stupid once you whittle some of it away. I too believe that our forefathers would never have signed on to what
our government has become...a playground of lobbyists and special interests. Politicians who go into politics not to help their fellow american but to get
rich after they leave office and become a lobbyist. Can anyone honestly say that we have no bastardized the dream of the founding fathers just a little? I
applaud these men for what they did to secure the blessings of liberty for all americans..intended or not. I also think that at least some of them must be
rolling over in their graves at what we have become. Just my opinion.

I wonder what they would have thought when FDR rounded up all the Japanese Americans & marched them off to internment camps?

this board is called the Black Hole for a reason
rrh asks an interesting question imo the Declaration of Independence should not be confused with the Constitution about 15 years separates the two documents and although similar in spirit they have very different purposes (along with different authors) the Constitution (when coupled with the Bill of Rights) is the truly great document imo when reading the list of grievances on the Declaration, I often wonder how accurate they are because British historians paint a very different picture

btw many of the issues that we have today were the subject of extensive discourse between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson particularly in their letters
exchanged after each had been President

Strange that anyone seeks to compare their (the signers) sacrifice with present day goings on. Night and day. Modern pols couldn't carry their jocks. In
that regard Seal is right. Those guys weren't in for profit. It was more about duty and honor even before they had a country.

I stand by ALL my comments. coach and jumbo have such regard for the founding fathers, but so little for the principles for which they bled.

You've pretty much gotta be a committed libertarian to get close to the attitudes and precepts of the founders. Certainly not a socialist.
