Former Longhorn great Vince Young issued a statement Sunday in response to the devastating murder of his close friend, Steve McNair.

McNair, the former Houston Oiler and Tennessee Titans quarterback, had been a close friend to Young and his family since Young was in high school.

Young said he called McNair "Pops."

"I'm still in shock since hearing the news yesterday," Young said. " I spent all afternoon and night thinking about my life on and off the field with Pops. Since I was a teenager, he was like a father to me. I hear his advice in my head with everything I do. Life will be very different without him.

"My thoughts and prayers are with Mechelle, the kids and the entire McNair family during this horrible time."

The bodies of McNair and a friend were discovered in McNair's Nashville condo on Saturday. On Sunday, police ruled McNair's death as a homicide, with an autopsy showing he suffered four gun shot wounds
